No Parking

You may have noticed that new signs have been installed on your street, like the one pictured here. These signs were installed last week and replaced others that allowed overnight parking for a maximum of 2 hours.

So, what do you need to know? For decades, all overnight parking has been prohibited. However, there was an exception allowing parking for up to 2 hours between 12am and 6am. As it was, City enforcement was inconsistent and difficult to address when complaints were received about vehicles parked beyond the two-hour limit. The old restrictions also did not allow for a dedicated time frame for streets to be cleared of vehicles for other city purposes when necessary. Due to the difficulty of enforcing past overnight parking restrictions, the City Council discussed possible changes over multiple meetings as part of the recodification of the City’s Municipal Code. Meeting materials available via the following links on the City website: September 11, 2025, City Council meeting packet; August 14, 2025, City Council meeting packet; July 10, 2025, City Council meeting packet; April 11, 2024, City Council meeting packet.

As part of the adoption of a newly revised Municipal Code, approved at the August 14th, 2025, City Council meeting, parking on city streets is now prohibited completely between the hours of 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM. The August 2025 meeting materials are available via this link to the City’s website. The new ordinance shortens the restricted period by two hours, from the former 12am to 6am to the current 2am to 6am. However, it also removes the two-hour exception during this four-hour time frame. Simply put, parking on any city street between the hours of 2am and 6am is now prohibited. This ordinance and other parking related ordinances can be found here, via a link to City Code 14-202.

Over the next several months, the Westwood Police Department will begin enforcement efforts of these recently revised overnight parking restrictions. The City has elected to establish a grace period over the next several weeks to allow for the education of residents regarding this change before any enforcement activities occur. If you have any questions regarding the new ordinance or its implementation, please call the police department at 913-362-3737.
